Tīna Marta Verpakovska (1995) is a basket weaver based in Riga, Latvia, with a background in functional and fashion design. Her current practice is rooted in basketry, drawing on knowledge shared by the local crafts community as well as artisans in Portugal and Slovenia. She works with hand-gathered plant materials, shaping them into baskets and vessels that capture the warmth and abundance of summer. Interested in the intersection between intangible cultural heritage and contemporary material culture, her practice explores ways of preserving slower forms of making in an increasingly accelerated world. Allowing the gathered materials and available textile resources guide the shape, structure and character of each object.
